George Clooney's Star Eclipses All

Recently, Publicity Queen had the opportunity to work with George Clooney, who was brought to Australia by their client, The Growth Faculty, as part of the Global Leadership Forum held in Sydney.

The agency’s specialty is in generating media coverage for entrepreneurial clients (ie. The Growth Faculty) and often it faces challenges given that their clients are new to media relations.

According to Principal, Sally Romano, they are generally in the position of building journalists’ trust with their clients’ brands and service offerings in the initial stages of engagement.

“Not so with George!” said Ms Romano.

“Working with an international star with the brand-power of George Clooney was a complete turning of the tide.

“Instead of contacting the media, they were contacting us in droves seeking exclusives and trying to out-bid one another with editorial proposals.

“And at the event, we even had a current affair show surreptitiously filming trying to get a scoop while many other Sydney-based journalists were simply waiting, watching and hoping.

“But perhaps what is most interesting, is that in the scramble for George, five other notable gurus who were also speaking at the forum got lost,” she commented.

The other presenters included Martha Stewart, Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, music industry mogul Russell Simmons and webpreneurs Jeff Taylor of Monster.com and Michael Fertik of Reputation.com.

“As far as the media were concerned, these five impressive world-class presenters, may as well not have been there,” Ms Romano said.

“It got me thinking about just who is feeding this seemingly insatiable appetite for news about celebrities – do they write the stories because we want to read them, or do we follow the agenda that the media sets – and what other stories are we, as consumers, missing out on?” she asked.

Publicity Queen provides a trademarked, multi-channel PR communications methodology, TRUEpublicity to entrepreneurial growth businesses in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
